The Gillespie House was our refuge when my wife and I relocated to San Diego for work. During the two months it took us to settle in to Rady’s and find and buy a house, we grew to call it “home”. We shared this large three-bedroom house with two other couples, both of which were low-key, friendly, extremely considerate of the shared spaces, and also in the process of looking for permanent housing in San Diego. Our room had a shared bathroom with the guests’ of the White Room. The shared bathroom is big and clean. The hosts have thought of everything. There is even color coded sheets and towels. The color of the towels corresponds to the guests rooms. Since our room was The Turquoise Room, we had turquoise towels. Sharing a bathroom was never an issue as the other guests were always considerate and usually on a different schedule. The kitchen is shared with the entire house. The big island in the center offers multiple chefs the chance to cook together. It is also the social hub of the house and is a gathering spot for lively conversations while sharing wine and exchanging house-hunting tips. The living room has a sectional sofa, coffee table and Apple TV. There is another table in the living room that can also serve as a desk or reading table. We used it while hunting for our new home on our laptops. The WiFi there is very fast. Everyone was great about making use of the included cleaning supplies to keep the shared areas spotless. The place even has a cute robot named “Minty” that quietly mops the floors at night. The hosts have really thought of everything. Because the house is near the two major east-west freeways in San Diego, it made for a great base from which to get to work and to check out the houses we spotted online.
