Our Himalayan B&B is a relaxing Himalayan getaway in the tranquil hills of East San Diego. Stay with a real Sherpa family from the tiny village of Lukla in the Mt. Everest region of Nepal. This private room, with attached bathroom, is in the far corner of our house, which sits on a 1-acre top-of-the-hill property with an incredible view, chirping birds, and a mountain-cabin-feel.
This unique accommodation for two is truly an exotic, far-east getaway in the heart of the western world.

Private areas include a bedroom, yoga area, meditation lamp, incense, Himalayan salt lamps, ancient Sherpa/Tibetan tapestries on the walls, prayer wheels, and a large Buddhist shrine brought directly from the Mt Everest region of Nepal.

The bedroom features a private attached bathroom with modern shower.

The modern conveniences are built into the room including tons of closet space for your belongings, wide-screen smart TV, subdued lighting, heating/AC, very fast Wi-Fi, and a sun-facing window.

Guests also get to use of the common areas of our house, including a full kitchen, dining room, living room, washer/dryer, and a patio with an incredible mountaintop view.

You have full access to a fully stocked kitchen — a separate refrigerator for long-term guests has been ordered and will be here any day. Also full access to our living room, dining room, and other common areas.

We also offer wireless access to a laser printer and scanner.

The view from the dining room table includes all of East San Diego, most of the local mountains and hiking spots, and overlooks Gillespie Field, a small airstrip that features many restored historical aircraft.

Depending on her schedule, Mrs. Sherpa might be around to invite you to enjoy a drink of traditional yak butter tea, a Nepali breakfast, or join us for dinner. The same type of food Mrs. Sherpa used to eat when growing up in her village of Lukla, near Mt Everest.

Guest access

Guests have one parking space and plenty of street parking. There is a washer/dryer on the premises. It is $5 a load. Detergent and dryer sheets provided.

Interaction with guests

While you have your own private space, you also have use of the fully-stocked kitchen, dining room, and patio. Guests are often invited to have a traditional Nepali meal with our family, hear stories and see photos from our home country, and learn about the Sherpa and Nepali culture.

We do have a 19-month old daughter in the house. She is very quiet, very social, and rarely cries. She sleeps on the other side of the house, so you cannot hear her from your quarters. You will be having breakfast, and sometimes dinner, with her, so if you are allergic to cute babies, this is not the place for you!

Your Hosts (don't worry, we won't be hanging out in your room or bathroom. You have your own key and your privacy will be respected.
I am Pema Sherpa and I am 19 months. I am the most social little one you will ever meet, but I still nap a lot. Not to worry, I won't disturb you. I am a quiet little girl and mostly like to draw (when my mom is not taking me to baby gymnastics or to play somewhere). I sleep in the far room, so even if i were to cry at night, you would not hear me 🙂

Gordon mans the BBQ for this during the monthly Gillespie House get-together in July. Faces have been blurred out to protect the innocent. 🙂
Your Hosts! Standing in from of The Gillespie House. We live in the far unit and are are always available to help. Just call, text, or ring our doorbell!

Backyard trail and walkway. Here you can sit on a rock and hangout with squirrels, humming birds, bluebirds, and many other kinds of birds. The squirrels will be your best friends (and come up quite close) if you have some breadcrumbs.
Gordon hangs out with his favorite squirrel during some meditative time in the backyard. The house sits on a 1-acre property for the ultimate in privacy and seclusion.

My husband and I are from Northern Calif. My husband is a surgeon and needed to come down to San Diego for work for 2 months and I was going to be staying with him for vacation. I was looking for some place quiet for some relaxation and to work on my own projects (writing, craftwork, etc.) without having to be always by myself. Read more…

I came to El Cajon because I was completing an internship at Sharp Grossmont and needed somewhere to stay that wasn’t too far away. Mike and Dakee were very accommodating and baby Pema was adorable. I didn’t have a car so mainly used public transport during my time there to go to and from the hospital. Read more…
