The Layout:

Master bedroom w/bath:
This luxurious bedroom (with attached bathroom) is the largest room in a spacious 1700+ sq. ft. house that we call “The Gillespie House”.

The Lavender room has a brand new spring-coil king-sized bed, lavender bedding, nightstands, antique desk, chair, a closet, and two small cabinets to store your stuff. It has an alarm clock with USB jacks to charge your Smartphone.

The private bathroom is new, clean, fully stocked, has a Jacuzzi bathtub, and even the towels are lavender.

Bedroom 2:

The Turquoise Room is the farthest away of the 3 bedrooms for guests in the house. It has a brand new spring-coil king-sized bed, and an alarm clock with USB jacks to charge your Smartphone.

Bedroom 3:

The White Room is the smallest of the 3 bedrooms for guests in the house. It has a brand new spring-coil queen-sized bed, and an alarm clock with USB jacks to charge your Smartphone.

Guest access

The kitchen is large and features a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, 4-burner stove, full-sized oven, toaster-oven, toaster, coffee maker, coffee bean grinder, cutlery, pans, pots, wine opener, can opener, salt/pepper, paper towels, etc. The island in the middle even has USB jacks to charge your phone. The full-sized refrigerator comes pre-stocked with bottled water and fresh Starbucks coffee beans.

We provide everything from cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, trash bags, dish-washing detergent etc.

Each bedroom and the living room has a smart TV where you can watch unlimited free movies and TV shows, on demand, from Netflix (free), Hulu Plus, HBO, YouTube, Disney, WSJ, Bloomberg, ESPN, PBS, MLS, MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, the Tennis Channel, The Weather Channel and PBS Kids. We are thinking of adding cable TV channels also for those that want local news.

The rooms and the entire house has very fast Wi-Fi. We recently bumped up the speed of the Internet to over 30Mbps!

For our business guests, we also offer wireless access to a laser printer and scanner.

Guests have 1 parking space and plenty of street parking. There is a washer/dryer on the premises. Detergent and dryer sheets provided.

Interaction with guests

We are just next-door and almost always home. We are just a text message away if you need anything at all. We can help you with directions, tips on where to go, and other friendly advice. If your car dies and you are stranded, we ask you to call us first and we will aid (if we can).

About the neighborhood

The house sits on a 1-acre property on top of a hill with panoramic views of local mountains and all of East San Diego County. The patio and dining room overlook the flight path to Gillespie field, where you can see restored WWI and WWII aircraft constantly flying by.
The neighborhood is a quiet, predominantly single-family residential area. It is so safe that I often don’t lock my car at night. Our family has lived here 30 years without a single theft or incident.
It is located in the city of El Cajon, which is in San Diego’s East County.
This location is generally sunnier than the coast, but still has easy access to beaches, mountains & desert.

If you are a pilot or aircraft buff, Gillespie field is a 30-minute walk, or a 6-minute drive away.

How to get around

It is just 30 minutes away from the beaches at La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Shores, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, and Mission Bay.
Less than 6 minutes away are the shopping malls and restaurants in Santee and fun places for the family like the Santee drive-in and Parkway Bowl. Food options include Mexican as well as lots of different ethnic foods from Japanese to Lebanese.

There are several grocery stores within a short drive including specialties like Middle Eastern, Mexican and health food.

Driving: Easy access to everywhere from I-8 or I-52 (both are 4 minutes away). You are allotted one parking space with plenty of street parking.

Transit: There is a bus stop within 10 minutes’ walk. An 8-minute bus ride will take you to the El Cajon or Santee trolley stations with access to most of San Diego’s attractions. Keep in mind that San Diego’s public transportation system is nowhere near as robust as that of New York or San Francisco. You are far better off renting a car at the local Enterprise car rental place for approx. $25/day.

Plenty of space for dining
We are a 10-minute bike ride (or 35min walk) from the flight schools at Gillespie Field and less then 15 minutes from the shopping malls, restaurants, and supermarkets, in Santee. The local 7-11 and taco shop are a 10 min walk away.

The Gillespie House was a wonderful experience. As a EMT student, I was in dire need of serene atmosphere to maximize my study potential. From comfy leather chairs and study tables to soothing jacuzzi tubs my lady and I felt right at home. The organization, cleanliness, and attentiveness of the hosts was truly complimentary. Read more…

I had a wonderful stay for a little over three months in the Lavender Room at the Gillespie House. I really have nothing negative to say about my experience there. Mike and his wife made me feel very welcome and were completely accommodating. The view from the patio is quite scenic and the house/décor itself is beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place to any fellow nurses. Read more…

“Great for extended business stays” I had a 2month work assignment in the San Diego area, Palomar Hospital to be exact. My 40-minute commute is less than half my normal commute in NorCal. This was my first experience with a shared guest home. The experience has been great! Read more…
